Croydon Speakers Club Evenings

Venue: St Matthews Church Hall (Address & Map)
Arrive from 7:45, meeting starts 8pm.

Club evenings are always interesting and vibrant. The positive atmosphere encourages speakers in the first half as they deliver prepared speeches. We normally have three or four speeches at different level of skill - taking guidance from the ASC manual. It is great to see newer speakers taking on the challenge of the early levels as well as sitting back and watching the more experienced speakers demonstrating the high standards that we are all working towards.

Croydon has a number of experienced senior speakers who do not sit on their laurels! Instead they prepare and deliver speeches that have interest as well as demonstrating skills for others to learn from. Within the club membership we have people who have won Southern Area Finals, District Finals as well as competing and winning at National Finals. With members taking senior roles with the organisation, we are well placed to keep abreast of the latest developments and indeed we are leading the field with some of our speaking events.

A typical evening then will include three of four prepared speeches, and their evaluations. General news of events, followed by impromptu speaking opportunities. Called 'Topics', these short mini-speeches develop confidence, skills and ability. Most sessions have a strong sense of fun and certainly a high level of enjoyment.

We try and offer everyone who attends at least one speaking opportunity per night, whilst respecting the wishes of those who are more comfortable initially just listening.

We are unique in offering additional opportunities to cover aspects such as specialised speeches, speeches incorporating PowerPoint and other innovative ideas. Finally, members are encouraged to take on the various roles - for example Chairman - in order to further increase their experience and enjoyment of the club.

So is the evening worth attending? Most definitely! We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting whether you are new to us, a past friend or a regular.
